Southbound rail volume into the United States increased in October after two months of flat volume. Total carload volume grew 5.8% in October. CN’s southbound volume dipped 2.5% while CPKC had a large increase of 18.1%.
Total train volume westbound to the Port of Vancouver increased 11.6% in October. The biggest gain came from Grain trains, which jumped 30.7% from 179 trains in September to 234 trains in October.
Total average daily volume headed eastbound from the Western Canada ports grew 18.1% in October compared to September, and CPKC continued to increase its market share of international intermodal volume.
